according to Carl Spitzweg (1808-1885), Picture, Wiehler special Hardanger (with counting Square) Fabric Size 50 x 42,5 cm, 33 colours, 9 stitches/1 cm, Petit Point Carl Spitzweg began his professional life as a pharmacist. Out of joy in drawing and painting he began to teach himself the necessary knowledge by studying the old masters. As a draughtsman he received his first orders as an employee of the "Fliegende Blätter". The special emphasis on comedy in his drawings was then also transferred to his painting. This is particularly evident in the painting "The Poor Poet" (Munich: Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung). Today Spitzweg is considered the painter of the world of the petty bourgeoisie and Biedermeier. In his colourfulness as well as in his humorous portrayal he has broken completely new ground in painting.
